Bryan Mullins

Bio

Bryan Mullins serves as Bullitt East’s Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach and is the longest-tenured consecutive member of the Chargers’ coaching staff. A Cincinnati native and graduate of Lakota East High School, Mullins played offensive line at the Division I level at Robert Morris University before beginning a career in the private sector. He later transitioned into education and coaching and currently teaches business at Bullitt East.

Mullins joined the Bullitt East staff in 2017 under Head Coach Mark Sander, initially coaching the offensive line. When Ethan Atchley took over the program in 2019, Mullins moved to the defensive side of the ball and took charge of the defensive line, a position group he has continued to lead ever since.

The development of Bullitt East’s defensive front became a major part of the program’s rise. In 2022, the Chargers finished among Class 6A’s top defenses while completing a historic 14-1 season and capturing the first state championship in school history. Bullitt East allowed just 17.1 points per game and limited opponents to 113 passing yards per game during the championship run.

Mullins also took over as Special Teams Coordinator in 2022. Five Chargers earned All-District recognition for their special teams play that season, and the unit delivered one of the defining moments of the state-title run with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown late in Bullitt East’s playoff victory over DuPont Manual.

In 2023, Mullins’ defensive front continued to play an important role in a 9-3 season and another trip to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs. Bullitt East finished fifth in Class 6A in sacks per game, while Baron Hardesty ranked among the classification’s individual sack leaders. The season also capped the high school career of Isaiah Hare, who finished as Bullitt East’s career sack leader with 18 and earned a Division I scholarship to Eastern Illinois.

The defensive front took another step forward in 2024. Bullitt East recorded 34 sacks in 11 games, an average of 3.1 per game that ranked seventh among all Kentucky high school teams. The Chargers also finished 12th in Class 6A rushing defense, allowing just 104 yards per game on the ground.

In 2025, Mullins’ defensive line helped produce one of the strongest run defenses in the state. Bullitt East allowed only 701 rushing yards over 12 games—just 58 yards per game—ranking fourth in Class 6A and 19th among all Kentucky teams regardless of classification. The Chargers finished 7-5 and advanced to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Since joining Bullitt East in 2017, Mullins has provided valuable continuity through multiple coaching staffs and helped shape the physical identity of the Charger program. His work developing defensive linemen and coordinating special teams has contributed to four consecutive winning seasons from 2022-2025, four straight playoff appearances and the 2022 Class 6A State Championship.
